Ariston was a pupil of Zeno of Citium and one of the founders of the Stoic philosophy. The name derives from the porch of the Athenian Agora (Greek στοά ποικίλη - " Painted Porch "), which was used by the Stoics as the first meeting place. The Stoic philosophy is based on the belief that emotions such as envy, passion and anger arising from misperceptions. It was aimed at intellectual and moral perfection and with the peace of mind identified ( apathy, self-sufficiency, including ataraxia ). At Ariston's main disciples was Eratosthenes.
