Arkady Vorobyov

Arkadi Nikititch Vorobyov (Russian Аркадий Никитич Воробьёв; born October 3, 1924 in Mordowo, Tambov Oblast, † December 22, 2012 in Moscow) was a Soviet weightlifter.

Career

During the 2nd World War, Arkady Vorobyov was drafted into the merchant navy in the Black Sea. After the war he worked in a restaurant in the port of Odessa and was then used for mine clearance. In Odessa, he also started with the weight lifting. Towards the end of the 1940s put an early successes. These successes were the beginning of a great sporting career, which culminated in two Olympic victories and lasted until 1962.

Also on professional sector Arkadi was always concerned about the progress. He studied at the Medical Institute in Sverdlovsk and became a doctor. In the 1960s, he was head coach of the Soviet weightlifter. Upon completion of this activity, he became rector of the Institute of Physical Culture and Sport in Moscow.
