The County is located in Eastern Arkansas, about 40 kilometers west of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with the neighboring state of Mississippi. History

The Arkansas County was formed on December 13, 1813, is the oldest county in Arkansas and has a long history behind it. It was named after the North American Indian people of Arkansas.
