Arkhangelsk Gospel

The Gospel of Archangel from 1092 (in Russian Архангельское Евангелие ) is a Cyrillic handwritten authored Evangelistar. It is the fourth oldest East Slavic book and is located in the Russian State Library in Moscow.

The history of the book and his fate until 1876 are unknown. It was named after its place of discovery. A farmer from Arkhangelsk brought the Gospel to Moscow.

The manuscript is in a satisfactory condition. The ink and cinnabar color are partially exfoliated, but the parchment pages bear no traces of dirt or water. For the study by specialists a facsimile edition was published in 1912.

A critical edition of the Gospel of Arkhangelsk followed in 1997. During the same year it was included in the UNESCO Memory of the UNESCO ..
