Arlen Erdahl

Arlen Ingolf Erdahl ( born February 27, 1931 in Blue Earth, Minnesota ) is a retired American politician. Between 1979 and 1983 he represented the state of Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Arlen Erdahl attended the public schools of his home and thereafter until 1953, the St. Olaf College in Northfield. Between 1954 and 1956 he was a soldier in the U.S. Army. Later he studied until 1966 at Harvard University. Erdahl then worked as a farmer. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party, whose regional party conferences in Minnesota, he attended between 1963 and 1964 as a delegate. Between 1963 and 1970 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Minnesota. From 1970 to 1974 he served as Secretary of State, the executive officers of the state government of Minnesota. From 1975 to 1978 belonged Erdahl on the public service commission of his state.

In the congressional elections of 1978 Erdahl in the first electoral district of Minnesota was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Al Quie on January 3, 1979. After a re-election in 1980, he was able to complete in Congress until 3 January 1983 two legislative sessions. In the 1982 elections, he was not confirmed. Between 1983 and 1989 he worked for the Peace Corps. First, he headed its department in Jamaica, after which he enlisted as an Associate Director on the Board. Between 1989 and 1993 worked Erdahl for the Federal Department of Energy. With his wife Syrdal he has six children. Erdahl spends his life in Burnsville.
