Arlesheim District

The district Arlesheim is an administrative unit in the canton of Basel-Country with capital Arlesheim.

Geography

The district Arlesheim located southeast of the city of Basel and includes the lower Leimental and the lower reaches of the Birs, the so-called Birseck. With 150,000 residents of the District Arlesheim is the most populous district of the canton of Basel-Land and is one big majority agglomeration of the city of Basel.

Traffic

The district Arlesheim is served by the tram and bus network of the BLT and the Juratrain excellent public transport links.

About the Highway H18 also the connection to the A2 motorway is ensured in Muttenz.

The district Arlesheim belonged in early 2009 15 political communities, of which the 8 should be treated with more than 10,000 inhabitants terms of size as cities.
