Armando Aste

He led the first ascent of the Eiger north wall by an Italian group in 1962 ( Armando Aste, Pierlorenzo Acquista, Gildo Airoldi, Andrea Mellano, Romano Perego and Franco Solina ). He climbed also the first climbers the southern tower of the Torres del Paine ( in German " the Towers of Paine " ) in Patagonia. Due to its numerous first ascents of mountains in the Dolomites and the Andes many climbing routes have been named after him (eg, the Aste- Susatti route on Monte Civetta in Belluno, first ascent together with Fausto Susatti on 26 to 28 August 1954).

Other selected first ascents in the Dolomites by Armando Aste were:

  • Cima del Focobon, together with Franco Solina, 16 to 19 August 1958
  • Piz Seranto south wall, with Franco Solina, 10 to 15 August 1959
  • Crozzon di Brenta, with Milo Navasa, 26 to 28 August 1959
  • Marmolada d' Ombretta, with Franco Solina, 24 -. August 29, 1964 Reinhold Messner repeated this route as the first, which is known as " Aste- route" or " Via dell'Ideale " today. The first winter ascent led by Jerzy Kukuczka ( 17 to 23 March 1973).
