Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council

Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council ( AFPRC ) is the name of the military junta and the transitional government, which had taken on 22 July 1994 in a bloodless coup, the state power in the West African nation of Gambia.

The four young army officers of the Gambia National Army led by the 29 -year-old Lieutenant Yahya Jammeh. They rushed the Dawda Jawara government with the excuse to stop her alleged extensive corruption and undemocratic government. A fifth officer, Lieutenant Yankuba Touray, was joined by shortly after the coup to the group and also took on a ministerial post.
