Armia Ludowa

The Armia Ludowa (German People's Army, AL) was a communist underground organization in Poland during World War II. It was supported by the Soviet Union in the fight against the German occupiers to establish a communist order in Poland after the victory. It was opposed by both the Germans and the Polish nationalist NSZ. Occasionally it also clashes with the Armia Krajowa.

On January 1, 1944, until then since March 1942 existing small Gwardia Ludowa ( People's Guard ) from the Krajowa Rada Narodowa ( National Home ) renamed Armia Ludowa. In the initial period, the AL had 10,000 members, in July 1944 about 30,000 members, 6,000 were being actively involved in battles.

With the establishment of the Lublin Committee on 21 July 1944, the Armia Ludowa was integrated into the Polish Army in the Soviet Union, renamed Ludowe Wojsko Polskie (Polish People's Army ) and formed under this name until 1989, the armed forces of the People Republic of Poland.
