Armindo Lopes Coelho

Armindo Lopes Coelho ( born February 16, 1931 in Regilde; † 29 September 2010 in Ermesinde ) was bishop of Porto.

Life

Armindo Lopes Coelho received on August 1, 1954, the ordination. He was pastor at the Cathedral of Porto. In 1959 he finished his doctoral studies in philosophy and theology at the Gregorian University in Rome. He was from 1959 to 1974 prefect of the seminary in Porto and professor of moral theology. In addition, he taught religion and ethics at the Liceu Rodrigues de Freitas and was Professor of Ethics at the Institute for social benefits in Porto and professor of dogmatic theology at the Centro de Cultura Católica. In 1971 he became a member of the cathedral chapter in Porto. In 1975, he became the dean of the Seminário de Nossa Senhora da Conceição ( Seminário Maior ) do Porto appointed. 1975 he was appointed Episcopal Vicar for Clergy and Church Renewal. In 1975 he was Pro- Vicar General of the Diocese of Porto.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 16 November 1978 Titular Bishop of Elvas and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Porto. The Bishop of Porto, António Ferreira Gomes, donated to him on 25 March of the next year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Domingos de Pinho Brandão, Auxiliary Bishop of Porto, and Manuel da Silva Martins, Bishop of Setúbal. Lopes Coelho was appointed Bishop of Viana do Castelo and on 13 June 1997 to the Bishop of Porto on 15 October 1982.
