Armoy, Haute-Savoie

Armoy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Armoy is at 639 m above sea level. M., 4 km southeast of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the Chablais, a scenic location on a plateau south of Lake Geneva, at the northern foot of Mont d' Hermone in the Savoy Alps.

The area of ​​4.95 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the central Chablais. The community area takes a portion of the high plateau south of Thonon -les- Bains, a ( average altitude of 620 m. M. located ). It extends north into the forests of the Forêt de Thonon. The northeastern and eastern part of the area runs along the Dranse who has scored here in the course of time, a nearly 200 m deep, gorge-like valley in the plateau. On the hill south of Armoy is 670 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of the municipality.

To Armoy the hamlet settlement L'Ermitage is one (559 m above sea level. M. ) on a clearing island in the Forêt de Thonon. Neighboring communities of Armoy are Thonon -les- Bains and Marin in the north, Féternes in the east, the south and Lyaud Allinges in the West.

History

From 1793 to 1870 Armoy formed, along with the double Lyaud community Lyaud - Armoy, since it is again a politically independent community.

The village church of Armoy dates from the 19th century.

Population

With 1216 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Armoy one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous strong growth of population was recorded. Outside of the old village emerged larger family house districts. The settlement area of Armoy is now conjoined with that of Lyaud.

Economy and infrastructure

Armoy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, especially in Thonon -les- Bains their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is of Thonon -les- Bains on the connecting road D26 easily accessible. Further road links exist with Lyaud and Reyvroz.
