ArmSCII

Armenian Standard Code for Information Interchange ( Armenian Standard Code for Information Interchange, ARMSCII ) is a character set that is used for the character encoding of the Armenian alphabet in computer systems.

The character encoding is defined by the Armenian National Standard 166-97. ARMSCII used only a single byte for encoding. The International character set Unicode standard replaces the national standard ARMSCII completely.

The following options are defined:

  • ARMSCII -7 described in AST 34.005, is a 7-bit encoding, which contains non-Latin characters.
  • ARMSCII -8, described in AST 34,002, is an 8- bit encoding as an extension of the ASCII character set.
  • ARMSCII -8a, described in AST 34,002, is an alternative 8- bit encoding as an extension of the ASCII character set.

ARMSCII -8 is intended for use on Unix and Windows computer systems, and for the exchange of information on the WWW and e -mail.

ARMSCII -8a is intended for use on DOS and Mac computer systems
