Armyansk

Armjansk (Ukrainian Армянськ; Армянск Russian, Crimean Tatar Ermeni Bazar ) is a town in the Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Geography

Armjansk is located in the extreme north of the Crimea peninsula in the Isthmus of Perekop. The city is located 133 km north of Simferopol, north of the city runs the North- Crimean channel. For the municipality also includes the villages Woloschyne ( Волошине ) Perekop ( Перекоп ) and Suworowe ( Суворове )

Population

Armjansk has a population of about 25,000, of these, about 54 % Russian, 29% Ukrainian and assign a 4% of 11 other nationalities.

History

Armjansk was at the beginning of the 18th century, founded by Greek and Armenian merchants, the (now Perekop ) came from Or QAPI. The place was until 1921 also the Crimean Tatar name Ermeni Bazar (Russian Армянский Базар / Armjanskyj Bazaar), which means " Armenian market." 1968 Armjansk got the status of an urban-type settlement, since 1993 it has the municipal law and is under Oblastverwaltung.

Economy

The largest employer in the city is produced by the state-owned enterprise Кримський Титан ( " Krimski Titan" ) which titanium oxide (TiO2 ), sulfuric acid and fertilizers. There are also a reinforced concrete work.
