Arnaldo Pomodoro

Arnaldo Pomodoro ( born June 23, 1926 in Morciano di Romagna ) is an Italian sculptor. He lives and works in Milan since 1954.

Life

From 1949 to 1951 Pomodoro studied stage design at the Art Academy of Pesaro. Then he designed the sets and costumes, and began, along with his brother, Giò Pomodoro the artist to work as a goldsmith. In 1954 Giò and Arnaldo Pomodoro along with Giorgio Perfetti Group 3 P. After 1955, both brothers were - together with Piero Dorazio, Gastone Novelli, Giulio Turcato, Tancredi, Achille Perilli and Lucio Fontana - group of artists Continuità. 1954 Pomodoro had his first solo exhibition at the Galleria Numero, Florence.

Between 1956 and 1959 led Pomodoro extended trips to Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt and Cologne. He took in 1959 at the documenta 2 in Kassel in 1959. 1960 Pomodoro traveled for the first time in the United States, where he met the sculptor David Smith. Between 1966 and 1968 he had a studio at Stanford University, Palo Alto, and a visiting professor at the University of California at Berkeley. From 1980 to 1984 Pomodoro taught at the invitation at Mills College, Oakland.

In 1995, the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro Pomodoro in Milan. The Foundation is dedicated to not only research the oeuvre Pomodoros and its conservation, they also dedicated to promoting contemporary sculpture and organizes exhibitions, especially to younger artists.
