Arne Carlson

Arne Helge Carlson ( * September 24, 1934 in New York City ) is an American politician and served from 1991 to 1999 Governor of the State of Minnesota.

Biography

After he had listened to the City Council of Minneapolis already from 1965 to 1967 and in 1967 a candidate for the Republicans unsuccessfully for the office of mayor, he was one of the January 1971 to January 1979 for different constituencies to the state parliament of Minnesota. Since 1979 he was elected State Auditor and thus head of the federal authority for the auditing of government spending. When he was able to just push through in the 1990 general election against Rudy Perpich, the Republicans Carlson was born on 7 January 1991, the 37th Governor of Minnesota. After successful re-election in 1994, he joined the subsequent election in 1998 not back in and was replaced in January 1999 by Jesse Ventura.

In September 2004, Carlson resigned from the Republican Party and declared himself independent of any political party.
