Arno Kompatscher

Arno Kompatscher ( born March 19, 1971 in Fiè ) is a politician of the South Tyrolean People's Party ( SVP) and since January 9, 2014 Governor of South Tyrol. From 2005 to 2013 was Kompatscher Mayor of Fiè. From 2011 to 2013 he was also serving as the president of the South Tyrolean Association of Local Authorities and the Council of European Municipalities.

Life

Kompatscher was born the fifth and youngest child of Walter Kompatscher (village blacksmith, mayor 1969-1980 ) and Elizabeth Rott (country midwife) in Fiè on 19 March 1971. After military service in the Alpini (1990-1991), he graduated in law at the Universities of Innsbruck and Padua. During the study period Kompatscher worked in the family business as a plumber and locksmith. After graduating, he spent a year as a teacher of jurisprudence and economics at the trade high school and at the Humanistic Gymnasium in Bolzano.

Then headed Kompatscher 1998-2004 the legal and contractual Office of the market town of Castelrotto. Between 2004 and the spring of 2013 he was President of the Board of Seis - Seiser Alm orbit AG and the same time managing the company.

Since September 9, 1995 Kompatscher is married to Nadia Ahlbrecht. Together they have six children, born between 1993 and 2012.

Political career

From 2000 to 2005, Kompatscher Vice Mayor of Fiè and a member of the District Council Salten - Schlern. From 2005 to 2013 he was the community Fiè ago as mayor. In parallel, he was from 2011 to 2013 President of the South Tyrolean Association of Municipalities and of the Council of European Municipalities.

In the parliamentary elections on October 27, 2013 Kompatscher candidate list as leaders of the South Tyrolean People's Party and was with 81 107 personal preference votes than Most Selected of all parties in the parliament. Since January 9, 2014 he is the successor of Luis Durnwalder South Tyrolean provincial governor. In the state government, he assumed the Departments Business, Finance, Innovation and External Relations.
