Arno Surminski

Arno Surminski ( born August 20, 1934 in Jäglack at Drengfurth / East Prussia ) is a German writer and journalist.

Biography

He spent his childhood in East Prussia. After the war ended in 1945, his parents were deported to the Soviet Union while he was able to escape into the Schleswig-Holstein Trittau. After elementary school he made from 1950 to 1953 an apprenticeship in a law firm. 1957 to 1960 he lived as a lumberjack in Canada, but then moved back to Germany. 1962-1972 he worked as a clerk in the legal department of an insurance company in Hamburg.

Since 1982 he has worked as a freelance journalist economic and insurance in addition to the literary work.

Surminski was acting with numerous short stories and novels, mostly of East Prussia from his home and the fate of displaced persons and refugees known. It's Surminski not about revenge, but to preserve the memory of that country his happy childhood. "It was my strong desire to reconcile the two generations to bring them to that they can better understand ," said Surminski to Ostpreußenblatt (30 October 1999).

Arno Surminski is a member of the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg.

From 2001 to 2007 was Surminski Ombudsman of the Association of private health insurance. He lives in Hamburg and has three grown children.
