Arnold Brunckhorst

Arnold Matthias (also: Arnold (us) Melchior, Andreas Matthias, Martin or other variants, while he himself signed mostly with Arnoldy Matthias ) Brunckhorst (* around 1670 /75, or at Celle, † probably 1725 in Hannover ) was a German composer and organist of the North German organ school.

Life

Brunckhorst was since 1693 in Hildesheim as an organist first at the Church of St. Martin, from 1695 to 1697 then worked at St. Andrew. On September 25, 1697, he was appointed by the Duke George William of Brunswick-Lüneburg organist of the parish church of Celle. 1720 finally he was court organist in Hanover, where he remained until his death well.

According to the records themselves Brunckhorst has employed in addition to his performance as an organist and composer with the organ building since he was involved in the expansion of the organs of Hildesheim and Hannover.

Works

Under Brunckhorsts full name only a single organ, a Prelude in E minor is handed down. For a critical examination of style Kollmannsperger an early Nicolaus Bruhns is attributed Prelude in G Minor, whose author with Mons: Prunth. is specified, viewed as a further work Brunckhorsts. In addition, a Claviersonate and two cantatas have survived.

Several interpretations of Brunckhorsts Prelude have been published on recordings. A complete recording of his works was published by the ensemble musica poetica Freiburg under the title Opera omnia in hänssler CLASSIC 1999.
