Arnold Koller

Arnold Koller ( born August 29, 1933, Appenzell or St. Gallen; homeland justified in Gossau and Oberbüren ) is a Swiss jurist and politician ( CVP). He was a member from 1987 to 1999 the Federal Council on.


Arnold Koller studied at the University of St. Gallen Economics and graduated in 1957 with a master's from. At the University of Freiburg, he studied law, graduating in 1959 with a degree and obtained in 1960 admitted to the bar in Appenzell Innerrhoden. In 1966 he became a Doctor of Law. doctorate. 1971 and 1972 he completed his education with studies at the University of California, Berkeley. He was extraordinary and in 1980 Full Professor of European and International Economic and Social Law at the University of St. Gallen in 1972.


From 1971 to 1986 Koller was a member of the National Council. In 1980 he presided over the CVP Group, in the Official year 1984/85 he was a National President. At the same time, he chaired from 1973 to 1986 the Cantonal Court Innerrhoder.

He was elected to the Federal Council on 10 December 1986. From 1987 to 1989 he was the Military Department (EMD ) before and from 1989 to 1999 the Justice and Migration (FOM ). He was President in 1990 and 1997. On 30 April 1999 he handed his successor Ruth Metzler -Arnold, after he announced his resignation on 13 January.

Koller is married and has two children. In the Swiss army, he was Lieutenant Colonel of the General Staff.
