Arnold Lobel

Arnold Stark Lobel ( May 22nd 1933, Los Angeles, † December 4, 1987 in New York City ) was an American children's author and illustrator. He is considered one of the most important children's book authors of the United States in the 20th century.

Life

Arnold Lobel was born as the son of Joseph and Lucille Lobel, however, grew up with his grandparents in Schevectady, New York U.S. State, lived together with him. He was often sick as a child and had to complete longer hospital stays. During this time he discovered his talent for drawing and caricature often teachers in the classroom, what the boy, who often lacked a certain appreciation earned by his classmates. He moved to New York City and attended the Pratt Institute, where he studied art and drawing. His Bachelor of Fine Arts he made in 1955. During the same year he met his wife Anita Lobel, with whom he had two children. She was later himself a well-known children's book author and illustrator as her husband.

In 1962, his first children's book " A Zoo for Mister pattern ", then it went quickly up to his death, he published more than 100 children's books, all of which he illustrated himself. Another 30 Books befriended writers such as Charlotte Zolotow, Judith Viorst and Jean Van Leeuwen were imaged from him. The most popular books were the series " Frog and Toad " ( frog and toad ), which made him across the U.S. and beyond known and published in many editions. Many of his works have been translated into German.

A deep friendship connected him with the German, acting in the U.S. actor Mathew Andes.

The popular children's book author, died on December 4, 1987 from a heart problem, which was caused by his AIDS illness.
