Arnold Skaaland

Arnold Skaaland ( born January 21, 1925 in White Plains, New York, † March 13, 2007 ) was an American professional wrestler and wrestling manager.

Career

Prior to his wrestling career Skaaland served in World War II in the Marines. Even before there led him to wrestling, he tried his hand as an amateur boxer.

Arnold Skaaland began in the 1950s as Bobby Weaver with the pro-wrestling. As agile wrestler he quickly made ​​a name for himself. In 1967 he won with Spiros Arion WWWF the U.S. Tag Team titles. In the early 1960s he was given two opportunities to the NWA World Heavyweight Title, but he was able neither to Pat O'Connor nor against Buddy Rogers to win. Skaaland was from the beginning of the World Wide Wrestling Federation, the predecessor of today's WWE. He was also a shareholder of the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, a company which was part of the WWWF.

After his playing days he managed the WWWF Champion Bruno Sammartino and Bob Backlund. Skaaland ended by a towel litter in December 1983, the title reign of his protege Backlund, who was in the camel clutch the Iron Sheiks. From the 1980s until a few years ago Skaaland worked as WWWF Official. His last match he wrestled in 1987 in a Legends Battle Royal.

Skaalands grave is located in the Roman Catholic Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne north of New York City.
