The Arnsberg ( Westphalia ) railway station was built in Arnsberg with the construction of the upper Ruhrtalbahn 1870 /71. The building itself was built in 1869 in Neo-Renaissance style. The station is still used for passenger traffic. Also located in the building spaces for different social groups and institutions.

In addition to the still existing facilities, there was a railway station on the Arnsberg main workshop, a depot, a railroad telegraph office and a customs office.

History

The precursor to the construction of the station was substantial disagreement within the city as well as the railway authorities on the location. Steuerrat Emmerich and others called for the construction of today's hunters bridge near the old Medina. This was rejected by the railway authorities for reasons of cost. The station has now been built at the output of the Schlossberg tunnel and below the Lüsenberges. Thus, the station was at that time far away from urban development. On 1 May 1908, the station was given the additional name " (Westphalia ) ".

Passenger

The station consists of a central main building, and an attached annexe building with two floors and a neighboring building with a floor. The central building was built in the Neo-Renaissance style by architect roughness from Elberfeld. From the original facade design today is get hardly anything. On 12 March 1945, the station was badly damaged in a bombing raid, but was later rebuilt.

Freight traffic

Main Workshop

In 1870, the state railway set up a main workshop for locomotives and cars, which developed into one of the major employers in the city. The entertainment functions were transferred (Ruhr) and Wedau to the maintenance workshops sword.

The depot Arnsberg had only regional importance and a small fleet of locomotives, which was composed of Prussian locomotives of types T 12, G 10 and P 8.
