Arnside and Silverdale

Arnside and Silverdale is an Area of ​​Outstanding Natural Beauty ( AONB ) in England. The area lies on the border between Lancashire and Cumbria on the edge of Morecambe Bay. With 75 km ² it is a small AONB, which lies between the estuary of the River Kent, the River Keer and the A6. The area got its status in 1972.

Arnside and Silverdale has a number of low hills of limestone from the Carboniferous as the Arnside Knott and the Warton Crag. Between the hillside, grassland and small trees of ash, oak and hazelnut. The coastal region has large salt marshes, which are constantly being changed by the River Kent.

The Leighton Moss Nature Reserve is owned by the RSPB and is home to many birds in the largest reed bed in the Northwest of England. There are also 15 Site of Special Scientific Interest in Silverdale and Arndale where to find rare butterflies.
