Arnulf III, Count of Flanders

Arnulf III. the unfortunate man, (* 1055, † February 22, 1071 at Cassel ) was a Count of Flanders and as Arnulf I. a Count of Hainault. He was the eldest son of Count Baldwin VI. of Flanders and Countess of Hainaut Richilde.

Arnulf succeeded his father in 1070 deceased father in two counties after, but he was still too young to govern themselves, which is why his mother took over the regency. This took advantage of his uncle Robert the friezes to take over power. In the decisive Battle of Cassel ( February 22, 1071 ) Arnulf fought with, despite his young age and was killed.
