Arpino

Arpino ( in antiquity: Arpinum ) is a city in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Latium, located about 7314 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 113 km east of Rome and 31 km east of Frosinone.

Geography

The municipality of Arpino is located on a mountain saddle between the hills of Civitavecchia, and Civita Falconara, above the valley of the Liri. The Montecoccioli ( 837 m) is the highest point in the municipality. The old town is dominated by the Civitavecchia area (650 m), the ancient Acropolis.

Arpino is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle del Liri.

Traffic

History

Arpinum to have been founded according to legend of Saturn. It has been proven since the 7th century BC as a settlement of the Volscians and was conquered in the 4th century BC by the Samnites.
