Geography

Geographical Location

The place is located in the Bavarian Forest in the valley of the White rain in Lamer angle and is surrounded by the mountain ranges of the Ossers, the Arber, the Riedel stone, Kaitersberges and the High arc.

History

Unternarrach was first documented in 1383. Since the 13th century, the monastery Rott was wealthy in this area. From 1580 to 1592 there was a new settlement of Arracher area. Until the 17th century, the monastery Rott practiced the basic rule from here.

For centuries were agriculture and forestry as well as the craft the livelihood of the population. The community Unternarrach consists of the self-employed to the municipal reform communities Unternarrach and Haibühl which merged on 1 May 1978 together. The town hall of the municipality is located in Haibühl.

Since the municipal reform created new residential and commercial areas. Tourism started to develop into a major economic factor. The number of overnight stays increased since 1978 from 54,000 to 190,000 in 2007. Renewed Tourist Information forms the center of the redesigned village square of Unternarrach. 1999 was inaugurated the leisure complex " Sea Park " at the White rain.

Mayor since 2008 Josef Schmid ( PWG "Unity "). He sat down in the runoff election against Hermann Koller ( CSU) by. His predecessor was Albert Kieslinger (CSU ).

Road

The main arteries are Arrachs the state roads St2138 to Lam or Kötzting and St2326 to Viechtach. Direct connections to highways do not exist, the nearest are the A 92 near Deggendorf 51 km away, the A 3 at Arch 56 km distance and the A 93 in Schwandorf 75 km away.

Railway

Unternarrach is on the railway route Cham Lam and is represented with its own breakpoint. It trains the Oberpfalzbahn.

The nearest airport is the airport Arnbruck around 12 km away.

Tourism

Culture and sights

Museums

The privately owned Bavarian Forest Craft Museum shows old crafts of the region with a focus on wood processing and the reconstruction of a farmhouse. In the affiliated distillery in the typical for the region Bärwurz is burned.

Since 2007, the Drexler -Hof holds the mineral collection Alois Schmuderer. In 37 showcases approximately 2,000 mineral specimens from Eastern Bavaria are presented with emphasis Bavarian Forest.
