Arrested Development (group)

Arrested Development is a progressive hip- hop group from the USA, in 1989 joined forces with the goal of a positive, Afrocentric alternative to the then popular gangsta rap has to offer. The founding members were Speech and DJ Headliner.

History

After over three years of work Arrested Development received a recording contract. After this period, the group also called their first album, which is 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of .... Several tracks on this album, namely Tennessee, People Everyday and Mr. Wendal, became Top Ten hits. Arrested Development received for 3 Years Grammy for Best Rap Album and the award for Best New Artist. The U.S. music magazine Rolling Stone magazine named the same year the band of the year.

The successor Zingalamaduni appeared in 1994 and was unable to repeat the success of the first album. The critics opinions were split and the sales were sluggish.

After the dissolution in 1996 Speech brought out a solo album, which is also only less been successful. Another member of Arrested Development, Dionne Farris, 1994 brought the solo album Wild Seed - Wild Flower out, which contained the hit single I Know and sold well.

In 1999, the group has come together again, followed by five more albums and an EP.
