Arresting gear
A fishing system (English arresting gear ) is used to decelerate safely aircraft upon landing at a short distance.
In the operation, a distinction is
- Wire chambers and
- Net fishing equipment
Rope capturing system
The operation of a cable catch system is described in the article rope.
Advantages of cable catch system are:
- There is a high number of " catch " possible to the steel cable has to be replaced
- The capture system can be used from both directions (so-called " approach end arrestment " [ catcher at the beginning of the runway ] and "departure end arrestment " [ catcher at the runway end ] )
- It is only a short time is required until the landing area for the next aircraft is released - it is particularly important to aircraft carriers.
However, the use of a cable catch system requires a fishing hook on the aircraft.
Power fishing system
Network lobbies are pure emergency systems to decelerate an aircraft which otherwise may not arrive in time to a standstill by a fishing net, which is erected perpendicular at the end of the runway and the landing deck.
Nets are a last resort, but can be used only from one direction. In addition, it takes a certain time until the captured aircraft is released from the net and then the web can be enabled again.
The erection of the network takes - depending on the design - a period of time and therefore requires a warning.
Furthermore, the use of a network system prohibits fishing for aircraft with sharp edges ( eg, F -104 Starfighter ) or loss of or damage to cabin roof ( strangulation for the pilot ).
Net fishing equipment on aircraft carriers
Net fishing equipment on aircraft carriers serve the same purpose as those plants on land.
