Arrissoules

Arrissoules is a village and formerly independent municipality in the district of Yverdon of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. On 1 January 2005 Arrissoules was incorporated by Rovray.

Geography

Arrissoules is located on 641 m above sea level. M., 11 km east of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The small village extends on a terrace in Molassehügelland the northern Vaud Mittelland. In the north of the village begins below the steeply sloping valley to Lake Neuchâtel Le Pissiau. South of the town the land rises to the height of the forest of Les Rapes ( 698 m above sea level. M. ). The former municipality area was only just 0.85 km ².

Population

With 37 inhabitants ( end of 2000 ) Arrissoules was before the merger with Rovray of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. The population of the town amounted in 1900 to 76 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1980 by more than two-thirds to 26 people, a slight increase in population was registered again since then.

Economy

Arrissoules still lives mainly from agriculture, especially from agriculture and animal husbandry. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village.

Traffic

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible and has known figure at certain times of the day a bus to the train station known figure. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1148 under the name Arresules. In the 12th century even the names Aressoles, Aresoles and Arisoles and 1235 Aresoules published. The origin of the name is unclear.

Since the Middle Ages Arrissoules was under the rule of Saint -Martin- du- Chêne. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Yverdon. Even into the 17th century benefited Arrissoules as a station on the road from Yverdon to Payerne, which did not lead then along Lake Neuchâtel, but over the hills. Only with the construction of the new road along the lakeshore village lost in importance. After the collapse of the ancien régime Arrissoules belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Yverdon. On 1 January 2005, the merger was finally consummated with Rovray.
