Arroba

The arroba was a Spanish- Portuguese liquid measure and weight. It has been reserved especially for oil, wine and honey.

Description

An etalon is in Toledo for the great arroba 1237 1/3 Spanish cubic inches, so have amounted to 16.17 liters. The arroba in Madrid but more from with 15.49 liters. It was also referred to by Cantara. In Saragossa the liquid measure was 9.96 liters and the oil arroba weighed 12.4236 kg. In Portugal, an arroba weighed 14.688 kg.

There were small with 12 till 19/ 80 liters and large arroba 16 7/190 liters. The little one was also called arroba menor ( 12.63 liters), the Great as arroba major. The Potta wine had 30 kilos (large). The ratio was 25 Large corresponded to 32 small kilos.

In some Latin American countries, the arroba is a commonly used measure of weight today. Staple foods such as flour, sugar and rice are traded on the markets in kilos or quintals ( fifth). In Bolivia, an arroba corresponds to 11.51 kilograms, so a Quintal has about 2.3 kg.
