Arrojadoa dinae

Arrojadoa Dinae is a species of the genus Arrojadoa in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet honors Dina Buining, the wife of the Dutch cacti connoisseur Albert Buining.

Description

Arrojadoa Dinae grows kleinstrauchig with branching at the base of thin cylindrical stems and tuberous roots. The shoots reach a length of 30 cm and diameter of 18 to 20 millimeters. Your 8 to 11 narrow, rounded ribs 4 to 5 millimeters wide. The present thereon round areoles have a distance of 5 millimeters. They are initially filled with grayish white wool and verkahlen later. The radiating, 4-8 mm long spines are yellowish brown to white or almost white. There are eight central spines and about 12 marginal teeth present, which are difficult to distinguish from each other. The cephalium consists of white wool and brown bristles 15 to 20 millimeters in length.

The brownish red to pinkish purple flowers are in sometimes yellow. They are up to 3 inches long and can reach a diameter of 9 mm. The oval to pear-shaped fruits are brownish red, and occasionally two colors.

Systematics, distribution and hazard

Arrojadoa Dinae is widespread in the Brazilian states of Bahia and Minas Gerais. The first description was in 1973 by Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining and Arnold J. Brederoo. We distinguish the following sub- types:

Arrojadoa Dinae is on the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN as " Vulnerable (VU) ," ie, endangered classified. The subspecies Arrojadoa Dinae subsp. eriocaulis is called " Endangered ( EN ) ', that is, performed at high risk.
