Arrondissement of Caen

The arrondissement Caen is an administrative district in the department of Calvados in the French region of Lower Normandy.

History

On 4 March 1790, " District Caen " was founded with the establishment of the department of Calvados, a, but was smaller than the present district. The district was established with the founding of the arrondissement on 17 February 1800, when arrondissement Caen.

On September 10, 1926, the arrondissement has been increased by the area of the former arrondissements Falaise.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the English Channel, on the east by the arrondissement Lisieux, in the south of the arrondissement Argentan in Orne and to the west by the arrondissement of Bayeux.
