Arrondissement of Haguenau

The district Haguenau is an administrative district in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region of France.

History

On 4 March 1790, founded with the establishment of the department of Bas- Rhin, a district Haguenau, which coincided essentially with the present arrondissement. The district was disbanded with the establishment of the arrondissement on February 17, 1800, and incorporated in the new arrondissements Strasbourg and Wissembourg.

Since May 18, 1871, the area lived as a circle Haguenau in the district of Bas-Rhin in Alsace-Lorraine Reichsland again. The group comprised 659 km ² and at that time had 73 316 inhabitants in 1885.

The district was established as part of the reintegration of Alsace to France on 28 June 1919 ( Treaty of Versailles).

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the district of Wissembourg, Germany to the east with the government district of Karlsruhe in Baden- Württemberg, in the south of the Arrondissement Strasbourg- Campagne, in the southwest of the district Saverne and to the northwest by the district of Sarreguemines in the Moselle department (Lorraine ).
