Arrondissement of Oloron-Sainte-Marie

The Arrondissement Oloron -Sainte -Marie is an administrative district in the department of Pyrénées- Atlantiques in the Aquitaine region of France.

History

On 4 March 1790, founded with the establishment of the department of Basses- Pyrénées, a " district Oloron ", being the present arrondissement in many parts. On February 17, 1800 from the Arrondissement Oloron was founded.

Since September 10, 1926 Part of the dissolved arrondissements Mauléon and Orthez were added to the Arrondissement Oloron.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north and east by the district Pau, in the south east of the district Argelès -Gazost in the Hautes -Pyrénées (Midi- Pyrénées), to the south by Spain with the autonomous provinces of Aragon and Navarre, and on the west by the Arrondissement Bayonne.
