Arrondissement of Veurne

The Arrondissement Furnes is one of eight administrative arrondissements in the Belgian province of West Flanders. It covers an area of 275.21 km ² with 60 775 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2012) in five municipalities.

It is also the administrative and judicial district. For judicial district Furnes also includes all municipalities in the arrondissements Diksmuide.

History

The area of ​​the arrondissement of Kortrijk belonged to the late 18th century to the County of Flanders, which was part of the Austrian Netherlands. In 1790, the United Belgian States originated from this temporarily. In the First Coalition War the area was occupied in 1794 and united because of measures taken by the French National Convention on October 1, 1795 decision by the French Republic. The administration and the judicial system has been adapted to the still new French system and set up departments, arrondissements and cantons refer to the relevant communities. The Arrondissement Furnes (French Arrondissement de Furnes ) belong 1795-1814 for Département de la Lys and was divided into cantons or justice of the peace districts Diksmuide ( Diksmude ) Haringe ( Haringhe ), Nieuwpoort ( Nieuport ) and Furnes ( Furnes ). Diksmuide is now part of the same district.
