Arrondissement of Villeneuve-sur-Lot

The district Villeneuve -sur -Lot is an administrative district in the department of Lot- et- Garonne in the French region of Aquitaine.

History

On 4 March 1790, " District Villeneuve " was founded with the establishment of the department of Lot- et- Garonne, a, which was, however, smaller than the present district. On February 17, 1800, it founded and from parts of the former districts Lauzun and Monflanquin the arrondissement.

On November 4, 1808 parts of the arrondissement ( the Canton of Montaigu- de -Quercy ) were the then newly founded Tarn- et- Garonne slammed ( Midi-Pyrenees region ).

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the arrondissements Bergerac and Sarlat- la -Caneda in the Dordogne, on the east by the district of Cahors in the Lot department (Midi -Pyrenees ), in the southeast of the arrondissement Castelsarrasin in Tarn- et- Garonne, also in the Midi-Pyrénées region, in the south of the arrondissement Agen and Marmande in the west to the district.
