Arroux

The Arroux in Autun

The Arroux is a river in France, in the Burgundy region. It rises in the municipality of Coulètre, drained initially to the west, then to the southwest and ends after 129 kilometers in Digoin as a right tributary of the Loire. On his way he crosses the department of Côte- d'Or, and Saône -et -Loire.

At the end of the 19th century, the river water was diverted Arroux at Gueugnon and a 14 -kilometer-long supply channel ( trench de l' Arroux ) east of the city Digoin into the Canal du Centre conducted to improve the water supply of the channel. The trench de l' Arroux was then navigable for small vessels. In the 1950s, the port in Gueugnon was closed and the shipping set to this supply channel. However, the water supply via the channel works to this day.
