Ars-Laquenexy

Ars- Laquenexy is a commune with 964 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The community of Ars- Laquenexy borders southwest to the city of Metz.

History

The origins of the village are close to the castle (Château de Mercy -lès- Metz), which dates back to the 10th century and was built on the site of a Roman villa from the 3rd century. The place was occupied and annexed by France in 1552, which was recognized in the 1648 Peace of Westphalia.

From 1871 to 1918, the village belonged once to the German Empire, but official and colloquial language was French.

From 1915 to 1918 and from 1940 to 1944 it was the Germanized name at Ars Kenchen.
