Ars-sur-Moselle

Ars- sur -Moselle ( German Ars on the Moselle ) is a French municipality with 4799 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Metz- Campagne and is the capital of the canton of Ars- sur -Moselle.

Geography

The community of Ars- sur -Moselle is located on the left bank of the Moselle, about ten kilometers southwest of Metz at an altitude 165-344 m above sea level. The western half of the 11.6 km ² of the municipal area is part of the Regional Natural Park of Lorraine.

History

It was first mentioned in 881 as Arx, which is derived from Arcus and refers to the remains of a Roman aqueduct.
