Arsen Mekokishvili

Arsenic Mekokischwili (Georgian არსენ მეკოკიშვილი; born April 12, 1912 in Georgizminda, today Kakheti region, Georgia, † March 5, 1972 in Moscow) was a Soviet wrestler Georgian origin. He was Olympic champion in 1952 and 1954 World Champion.

Life

Arsenic Mekokischwili began with 20 years at Dinamo Tbilisi with the rings. In the Georgian SSR in 1945 a wrestler center was created, the outstanding athletes brought forth and the many Olympic, World and European champions came from. Mekokischwili soon became one of the best Soviet heavyweights. He struggled initially in two styles ( Greco- Roman and Freestyle ), but specialized in the late 1940s to the very free style.

In 1946 he moved to Dinamo Minsk. Together with the Estonian derived Johannes Kotkas and the Moscow Alexander Masur he controlled more than 20 years, the heavy weight class in the USSR. The Soviet Union did not occur until 1947 at the International Wrestling Federation ( FILA ), so that he could start at a major international event in 1952 for the first time. But he had great success, because it was 1952 Olympic champion and 1954 world champion.

Professionally, he was a member of the Soviet security authorities.
