Arsk

Arsk (Russian Арск, Tatar Арча / ARCA ) is a city in the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia) with 18,114 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the Volga region about 60 kilometers (direct distance) north-east of the Republic capital Kazan on Kazanka River ( Tatar Qazansu ) opening in Kazan in the Volga.

Arsk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons Arsk.

In 2002, 85 % of the population Tatars, Russians 13%, the remainder being primarily Mordvins, Mari, Udmurt and Chuvash.

History

Arsk may have been founded no later than the 13th, in the 10th century and was a major stronghold of the kingdom of the Volga Bulgars and later the Khanate of Kazan with earthen walls and stone walls dar. During the Moscow -Kazan Wars, the town was burned down in 1552 by Russian troops.

After the defeat of Kazan and connection to the Tsardom Russia Arsk In 1606 the fortress again. 1781 a city charter was granted as an administrative center of the governorate Ujesds Kazan. The Ujesd was soon dissolved and divided between the adjacent Ujesden Kazan and Mamadyshsky. Arsk sank as " management -level city " ( " saschtatny gorod " ) into insignificance.

1926 Arsk lost its city charter and was henceforth regarded as a village. However, thanks to the continuous opening of leading by Arsk railway Moscow -Kazan - Ekaterinburg in 1924 grew economic importance and population in the subsequent period again.

1938, the status of an urban-type settlement was awarded, and finally again on 27 June 2008 the municipal law.

Economy and infrastructure

The city is located in the middle of an agricultural area. There are companies in the food and textile industries and the construction industry.

Arsk is located on the railway line Moscow -Kazan - Ekaterinburg ( kilometer 854 ). This is the end, most suburban trains from Kazan towards Yekaterinburg. Through the city's regional road Kazan leads to Malmysch on the Vyatka in the south of the neighboring Oblast Kirov.
