Artdirector

An art director ( art director also outdated art director, abbreviation AD, dt " artistic director " ) is the common job title for an experienced and senior graphic designer. Even if the name is not protected or to uniformly define, it usually requires several years of training (or learning) and also several years of professional experience.

Tasks and requirements

An art director develops, generally speaking, the artistic, ( audio- ) visual realization and is there for each creative production processes (eg, photographs, film scripts, stage - design, animation, layout, etc). He then takes over often the " artistic responsibility " for a customer or a production.

A good art director is particularly characterized by a high degree of creativity, teamwork and leadership quality and production experience. One of the main tasks of an art director is to merge the creative potential of several employees with their own idiosyncrasies to a stylistic unity.

Terms

The art director begins his career as a junior art director ( JAD ), and in some companies, there is also the senior art director (SAD). Other common trade names include Assistant Art Director (AAD ) or Art Director of Photography (ADP).

The term comes from the American art director, bearing in mind that with art in English usually the, meaning " Applied Arts " in contrast to the fine arts, synonymous with " Free Arts ". The English names are mutatis mutandis also increasingly being used since the 1960s in Germany, since they have established themselves internationally.
