Arte Moris

Arte Moris ( "Living Art " in Tetum ) is the first art school, cultural center and artists' association in East Timor. It has its center in the former National Museum in Comoro, in the capital Dili.

Arte Moris was founded in February 2003, after the violent occupation by Indonesia. " Your main goal should art as a building block in the psychological and social reconstruction of a country that has been ravaged by violence, with special emphasis on the help of his young citizens." The idea for this project had the Swiss Luca and Gabriela Gansser.

Arte Moris offers local art classes for Timorese, encourages advanced students and organized the sale of art in her gallery and two hotels in Dili. Arte Moris is also working with the professional drama troupe Bibi Bulak ( "Crazy Goat ").

The resulting Arte Moris art is very wide-ranging in style to, but often surrealistic and shows cultural aspects from the different regions of the country.

Patron of Arte Moris is José Ramos- Horta, Nobel Peace Prize winner and President of East Timor.
