Artemio Franchi

Artemio Franchi ( born January 8, 1922 in Florence, † August 12, 1983 in Siena ) was an Italian football official.

From 1973 until his death in 1983 he was president of UEFA.

Franchi died in a traffic accident in Mezzavia ( between Asciano and Taverne d' Arbia, in the district of Siena) in activities as Capitano Contrada Torre to the Palio di Siena, four days before the event. He was the second president of the football organization, who died in office.

In his honor, the stages of Italian clubs Fiorentina and AC Siena were renamed Stadio Artemio Franchi. He was buried at the Cimitero di Soffiano in Florence.

In the 1981 membership list of Propaganda Due Franchi found is listed as number 402.
