The Artesonraju is one of about 50 peaks of the Cordillera Blanca in the Peruvian Andes. The mountain in the Ancash region is popular with climbers, athletes are not only due to its great popularity aesthetics, is commercial tours but still spared. The summit, which resembles a pyramid, is located between two ravines and achieved - depending on the source - an altitude 5999-6025 meters. For climbing Artesonraju four routes are known: The north ridge as easiest route runs from the Santa Cruz ravine coming along the north ridge. The route through the south-east wall starts in the lagoon of Parón, is 800 meters high and offers an average of between 45 and 55 degrees ice climbing ( at the steepest point 70 degrees). The south-west wall is 700 meters high and offers ice climbing between 50 and 80 degrees. The little East Ridge is committed between 40 and 50 degrees steep and is committed because of the length usually in one to two days.

The summit ridge of the mountain is notorious because of the fragility of the overhanging seracs. At the beginning of the climbing season, there is great danger of avalanches. The optimal travel time to reach the summit, mid- June through early August.
