Arth is a municipality in the district of Schwyz in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. It consists of the villages of Arth, Oberarth, Goldau and a part of the Rigi.

Geography

Arth is located on the southern shore of Lake Zug in a valley between the Zugerbergbahn and the Rigi.

History

The first settlers in Arth were dwellers and Celts ( Helvetii ). Celtic origin is also the name of the valley, for the word " Arth " means " Acher, drift ". The great plain from the south end of the lake to Goldau and sunny slopes on the sunny mountain were good pasture and arable land. The abundance of fish in the sea and in the valley by flowing waters revealed along with agriculture and hunting a good source of nutrition.

The Counts of Lenzburg, Kyburg and von Habsburg were owners of this area. 1315 included the Schwyzer Arthern with the preservation of the freedom an antibody directed against the Austrian rule waistband. On 2 September 1806, the Goldauer landslide. On the house-sized rubble of the important railway junction Arth -Goldau was built. Following the introduction of bus services between Goldau Arth and rolled the blue white " Arther Trämli » on August 31, 1959, his last trip.

Traffic

The A4 motorway runs south of Arth at the foot of the Rigi along. In Arth is only one departure. Over a full connection, however, has the neighboring village Goldau. With the Zugerland transport companies from the railway station Arth- Goldau, has access to the European rail network within 10 minutes.
