Arthit Kamlang-ek

General Arthit Kamlang -ek ( Thai: อาทิตย์ กำลัง เอก, pronunciation: [ t ʰ ː ʔa IT kamlaŋʔè ː k]; born August 31, 1925 in Bangkok ) is a high-ranking military and politicians in Thailand.

Early years and military

Arthit was educated at the prestigious Chulachomklao Military Academy in Bangkok and grew up quickly. Especially after he had brought the king and his family during the failed military coup in April 1981 in security, he was patronized and promoted to commander of the military district of Bangkok. Since September 1982, he was commander of the army and expressed obvious political ambitions. He was therefore dismissed by Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda in May 1986 and came also from military service.

Political Work

After his military service was dedicated to Arthit politics. In 1988 he was appointed head of the Thai People's Party ( Puang Chon Chao Thai ), which included the former group the Democratic soldiers. In July 1988, he moved into the Parliament in August 1990 and was able to form a coalition government under Prime Minister Chatichai Choonhavan as his deputy. In February 1991 he was arrested along with Chatichai after the military coup had, among other things because Arthit deputy defense minister had been appointed, and thus had an impact on the budget and appointments. In March 1991 he was released and allowed to travel abroad. In January 1992, Arthit resigned his party chairmanship and joined the Sammakkhi Tham, which was supported by the Thai Air Force. In the following political unrest of May 1992, he played no role.

Family

Arthit has two sons, a daughter and a stepson.
