Arthur C. Cope

Arthur C. Cope (* June 27, 1909 in Dunreith, Indiana, USA, † June 4, 1966 in Washington DC ) was an American chemist and professor of organic chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.

His field was the preparative organic chemistry, specifically elimination and condensation reactions. According to him, the Cope rearrangement and Cope elimination were named. Other fields were the barbiturates and the synthesis of unsaturated esters.

His awards honor the American Chemical Society Arthur C. Cope Award.
