Arthur Conley

Arthur Conley ( born January 4, 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia, † 17 November 2003) was an American soul singer.

Life

Conley was born in McIntosh County, Georgia, and grew up in Atlanta (Georgia ). He made his first recording session in 1959 as lead singer of the band " Arthur & the Corvets ". With this formation he could take a total of three singles in the record company " National Recording Company " in Atlanta in 1963 and 1964.

In 1964, he moved to Baltimore to record company " Ru - Jac Records" and published here, " I'm a Lonely Stranger". After Otis Redding had heard of this recording, he made the offer Conley 1967, a new version on Redding 's own record company " JOTIS Records " bring out what should be the second disc of this company total only. Together they wrote then the original Sam Cooke song " Yeah Man " in " Sweet Soul Music" by, then on Redding 's efforts at Atco Records - a subsidiary of "Fame Records " came out and at the FAME studios in Muscle Shoals ( Alabama) was added been. It was an absolute hit, which rose to the number two on the U.S. charts and the top ten in most European countries. " Sweet Soul Music" was over one million copies and was awarded a gold record. (Music recording sales certification ).

After a further single releases in the early 1970s he went to England in 1975 and then settled in the spring of 1977 settled in Amsterdam. In the early 1980s, he had successful appearances as " Lee Roberts and the Sweaters" in Ganzenhoef, Paradiso, De Melkweg and the Concertgebouw. At the end of the 1980s he moved to Ruurlo, where he officially changed his name to Lee Roberts ( a composition of his middle name and his mother's maiden name ).

Here he ran the music business with his company "Art- Con Productions Company" on. One who was with him under contract music groups, the heavy metal band "Shock Wave" from The Hague.

Conley died at age 57 in November 2003 in Ruurlo colorectal cancer. He is buried in the cemetery of Vorden.
