Arthur Cronquist

Arthur John Cronquist ( born March 19, 1919 in San Jose, California, † March 22, 1992 in Provo, Utah) was an American botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Cronquist ".

Cronquist worked at the New York Botanical Garden, the Botanical Garden, the Bronx in New York City. He is known for his classification of angiosperms. According to him, the plant genera and Cronquistia Cronquistianthus are named from the sunflower family. His books on plant classification are considered his masterpieces.

1986 Linnean Medal of the Linnean Society of London awarded him. Cronquist died at the age of 73 years on 22 March 1992 of heart failure while he conducted research at the Herbarium at Brigham Young University.
